Special needs dentistry
Care built around your child — not the other way around
Children with special healthcare needs deserve a dental home that adapts to them. Ours does, by design.
How we adapt
Yes — Thompson Pediatric Dentistry welcomes children with special healthcare needs, from sensory sensitivities to complex medical and developmental conditions, with visits built around each child.
- You tell us what works. Before the first visit, we ask about sensory sensitivities, communication preferences, triggers, and comfort objects — and we build the visit around your answers.
- Pacing without pressure. Early visits can be short and goal-light: meet the team, sit in the chair, touch the mirror. Progress at your child's speed counts as success.
- Sensory-aware environment. Quieter rooms, dimmed lights on request, distraction and comfort items, and a team trained in patience.
- The full comfort ladder. When helpful, nitrous oxide, in-office IV sedation, or hospital dentistry let us complete needed care safely and kindly. How sedation works →
- A psychology-trained doctor. Dr. Thompson's undergraduate degree is in psychology — reading and respecting each child's cues is the foundation of how she practices.
